base founder and CEO, Ben Foakes has a background in sports and media production.  Growing up as a professionally sponsored Freestyle BMX rider and Video maker, Ben launched his media industry career producing and editing globally distributed extreme sports DVDs.  It was this foundation in extreme sports which got him noticed by the makers of Channel4’s World Superbikes, leading to a fast-paced career in sports post-production during his early twenties, which included travelling the world editing Formula 1 for ITV.

2014
  • base was formed, with the launch of the 1st generation cloud storage service.
  • Little Dot Studios were one of the first customers on-boarded
  • The first 14 terabytes were uploaded into our cloud storage
2015
  • The first base multi-cloud data center was deployed with Vodafone
  • base partners with Signiant to provide egress-free, accelerated file transfer services
2016
  • BeBop and Adobe joined the partner programme to launch 100% cloud-native remote editing services.
  • IBM Cloud joined the partner programme to provide scalable global public cloud infrastructure.
2017
  • The first bespoke sports content distribution service with Veritone Inc. was launched for Formula E, incorporating AI-powered auto-tagging.
  • base teamed up with Telestream to implement broadcast-standard transcoding services.
2018
  • base becomes an early adopter of cloud-native MAM solution, iconik, taking the product to market in UK with great success.
  • Storing over 1 Petabyte of data, the solution launched seamlessly with over 100 active users.
2019
  • Generation 2 of base cloud storage services launch with S3 compatibility and multiple global regions.
  • base becomes the new custodian of video DAM platform, ChilliVault, serving prestigious brands and advertising agencies.
2020
  • Deployed cloud-based Adobe editing for several existing and new customers to accommodate the shift to remote working during global pandemic.
  • Worked with companies such as the BBC to transform remote and hybrid workflows for the future.
2021
  • Built the world’s first 100% cloud-based Adobe post facility for Green Rock, in partnership with AWS and BeBop Technology.
  • Designed and developed popular integrations with Dolby Hybrik transcoding, Iconik Bulk Downloader and Automated Quality control, to power end-to-end broadcast content chains in the cloud.
2022
  • Enjoying record growth in sales, customer acquisition, new product development and scale out of our amazing team.
